The EMC-16 is the simplest of dive computers to use and understand, even for beginning divers. It is ready-to-use straight out of the box. Merely understand the large easy-to-read display and audible warnings.

The intelligence built into the EMC-16 manages everything else. It automatically, seamlessly, and constantly adapts to your personal diving style, water temperature, salt/fresh water, ascent rates, and altitude . It even has a built in 'Flight Data Recorder' that records changes in altitude during your flight to and from the dive destination. (Eighteen percent of the DCI incidences occurred during or immediately after a Post-dive change of altitude.)

Multi-blend configuration features Cochran's patented gas blend switching.

EMC-16 Feature Selection Guide

The EMC-16 is designed to grow with the diver as his/her diving experience progresses the EMC-16's can be enhanced to keep step with the progress. The "upgrade-ability" prevents the diver from buying "too much" or "too little" dive computer. By answering the following questions the diver can make an informed decision as to which configuration of the EMC-16 is right for them.

  1. Do you dive Nitrox?
If NO, the Air only configuration is for you.
If NO, but I plan to get certified shortly. Then the single-gas FO2 should be considered.
If YES, go to the next question.
  2. Do you Dive more than one Nitrox mixes per dive?
If NO, Only one, Then the single-gas FO2 should be your choice.
If YES, then the 2-FO2 configuration is for you.
  3. Can the EMC-16 be used with my semi-closed circuit rebreather?
Yes, semi-closed circuit rebreathers use a constant FO2 Nitrox blend, again if you only dive one mix per dive, the single gas-FO2 configuration is for you.
  4. Do you dive a closed circuit rebreather?
If NO, there is no need to consider a EMC-16 with the Constant PO2 feature.
If YES, go to the next question
  5. How many PO2s do you use per dive?
If only one then the One-FO2 / One-PO2 configuration will fill the bill. If your CCR unit can handle two different PO2s per dive then you will need the Two-FO2 /Two-PO2 version.
  6. Does color make a difference?
The color of the Wrist Unit is strictly a matter of diver preference.
  7. Which mounting method is right for you?
Again as with color, it is a matter of diver preference.
If your a "reach under the rocks and in hole" type you will probably not want a wrist mounted unit.
If you like a redundant SPG, you may want the Hose Mount version.
If keeping thinks streamlined is your aim, then one of the Retractor mounted versions need consideration.
  8. Why offer two colors of Backlight?
Individuals with red-light night-vision problems have the option of having the unit equipped with a Yellow Backlight.
  9. How much memory do I need?
While the EMC-16 has the capability of storing dive profiles for a maximum of 550 dive hours. Some divers who regularly use our AnalystŪ PC software may not want as much.
However, there is a certain comfort knowing that your dive computer is retaining ALL of your dives.

With the answers to these questions your authorized Cochran Dealer will assist you in selecting a EMC-16 configured with the features to match your diving needs. Remember, all EMC-16's can be enhanced and upgraded as your diving experiences progress.
